Any Community Foundation CEO knows the difficulties of wrestling with a complex issue preventing their organization from moving forward — and the joy and clarity when the work comes together. Join your peers for a four-hour session to learn about the bigger picture, and to discuss where your organization is going in smaller groups. During the retreat, you will be joined by other CEOs from across the country — a group of advisors — and a peer CEO facilitator who understands the peaks and valleys of community foundation leadership. Get inspired, educated, and focused in this CEO-only retreat.

Every day, foundations, nonprofits, and community professionals are investing money, time, reputations and resources in tackling the most difficult social challenges. We must strengthen our ability to innovate and adapt in order to lead lasting and scalable impact. This session will introduce you to design thinking, a human-centered approach to innovation, through hands-on training that equips you with the insights, tools, and skills needed to be comfortable and confident leading organizations tackling challenges in our rapidly changing world. The agenda and activities will address: * Strengthening individual and organizational creativity including techniques to think differently about stakeholder challenges, identifying problems, and developing fresh ideas and solutions * Implementing Processes to make mission-aligned decisions, and prioritizing ideas and solutions, and testing them in action * Developing frameworks to connect design thinking with board responsibilities * Learning in collaboration with a network of motivated peers. Everyone will leave with an action plan specific to their organization to test and evaluate when they return from the conference.

Come network with and learn from grants, scholarships, and program staff in this interactive round table retreat for discussions networking and sharing knowledge. The objectives of this session are to introduce community foundation program staff to one another, help foster a supportive and collaborative environment, and discuss key topics and trends impacting grants, programs, and scholarships among community foundations. Participants will break into roundtable discussions to exchange best practices and create a learning community around the following topics:

Communications/Marketing Retreat: Help Each Other, Help Yourselves

This four-hour retreat will be packed with actionable content to lighten your communications load. You’ll discover how your work can be helpful to – or helped by – your fellow attendees, learn about tech tools that can make your job (and life!) easier, get tips to streamline and clean up your content management, and take away ideas for how your foundation can facilitate community programs that will build public interest while boosting fundraising campaigns. At the end, you’ll have time to start sketching out your action plans, brainstorm ideas and network with your peers.

Development Retreat: 10 Life Hacks for Community Foundations

This session will provide practical tips on doing more with a smaller foundation. How you can innovate, use technology, and volunteers to effectively grow your small foundation, run a grants and scholarship process, and participate in community initiatives all with a small staff. Eric welcomes your questions and looks forward to an interactive, informative and fun session, that will make the larger foundation employees wish they worked for an innovative small CF.
